Festive Friends at Tannadice

December 22, 2016

Dundee United today welcomed 45 Festive Friends as part of a new initiative on the part of the Scottish Professional Football League Trust aimed at engaging socially isolated older people the length and breadth of the country.

The fantastic idea which is being run at 26 Clubs around the country in the run-up to Christmas Day started with a lavish Christmas dinner and specialty cakes. A highlight of the day was the visit of first-team players William Edjenguele, Simon Murray, Wilson Flood, Lewis Toshney and Club Captain Sean Dillon and the introduction of the guys certainly peaked the interest of all the ladies in attendance! The event was rounded off by a 1950/60 quiz, amazing singing performances by Wayne O’Hare and Angela Thompson, dancing and Christmas gifts.

Dundee United Community Manager Gordon Grady said: “We have had a tremendous day at Tannadice here today. Similar to the Still Game Project which we also run at the Club, I believe this kind of initiative addresses an urgent need in our society. It is important to remember that the festive season can be a very difficult time of the year, especially for isolated people, and we are thrilled we could make Christmas for our guests quite special this year.”

A fantastic idea, a fantastic day. Enjoyed by all our fantastic festive friends
