ArabTRUST Member Update November 2016

ArabTRUST Member Update November 2016
30 Nov

Dear ArabTRUST member,

As we approach the festive period I thought this would be a good time to update our members on what the ArabTRUST board has been doing over recent months and this can be summarised into three key areas, firstly representing our members views to Dundee United Football Club, secondly supporting youth development at the club and finally supporting community initiatives in and around the club. Looking at each of these in turn:-

Representing our member’s views

We recently contacted members asking for any questions they would like raised with Stephen Thompson for a Q&A that has been arranged for early December. I would like to thank all those that responded and we will arrange to circulate the responses received from the club as soon as possible after the meeting. Members can forward questions to us at any time either by contacting any board member or by e-mailing yoursay@arabtrust.co.uk and our Associate Director Stuart Campbell will raise these with the appropriate area of the club.

ArabTRUST is also playing an active role in the recently formed Supporters Liaison Group (SLG). The SLG brings together representatives from several supporters organisations to discuss issues affecting the club. Stuart also represents ArabTRUST on this and he will give a bit more background to the SLG later in the newsletter as he explains what has been happening during his first two months as ArabTRUST’s Associate Director at the Club.

We also recently asked for feedback on our Facebook page regarding the facilities that were available to away supporters at the recent match in Greenock. We have contacted Greenock Morton FC with details of the points raised and will circulate any response received in due course.

Youth Development

A lot of work is going on in the background to look at how funding from supporters groups can best be coordinated to benefit the Dundee United Youth Academy and hopefully more details of this will be announced after the turn of the year. In the meantime one of our major fundraising initiatives is our annual Christmas Raffle which again has lots of great prizes and all proceeds from this will be invested in youth development at the club. More details are available later in this newsletter. We are also working on a proposal for an end of season youth football festival to raise funds and again any profit from this will be invested in Youth Development at the club

Community Development

We continue to support several projects in the community and recently confirmed our joint sponsorship (with the Dundee Supporters Associations) of the Dundee Primary Schools FA

One of the great success stories of the year has undoubtedly been the Dundee United Women’s Team who won a league and cup double in their first season. Women’s football is one of the fastest growing participation sports and ArabTRUST are proud to be one of the sponsors of the team and can confirm that we will be continuing our support for next season. As they look to build on their success from their first season the women’s team will also be establishing a Development Team ahead of the start of the new season.

Associate Director Update

As a life long Arab it is a great privilege for me to take on the role of ArabTRUST Associate. My aim is to ensure that going forward there is a strong and robust relationship between ArabTRUST and the club so that we can progress our key objectives around youth and community development together with representing our members views and hopefully increasing our shareholding in the club.

As I have settled into my new role the first couple of months have really been about establishing and developing relationships not only at boardroom level but also with key personnel throughout the club and this will continue to be a key focus for me over the coming weeks and months. As I gain a more detailed understanding of how the club operates this will help me identify the areas where ArabTRUST can help and who within the club is best placed to deal with any questions or queries that are raised by our members.

A real positive for me this season has been the establishment of the Supporters Liaison Group (SLG) and I am ArabTRUST’s representative on this. The SLG brings together representatives from all of the main supporters groups to discuss issues in and around the club. In the three meetings to date David Southern, Brian Grant and Joe Rice have each attended to explain a bit more about their roles at the club and answer questions from the group and this has given real insight into what they do and the issues they have to deal with. Minutes from these meetings will be posted on the ArabTRUST website for our members to see more detail of what is being discussed.

Going forward I will be providing updates on what I have been working on in forthcoming newsletters. If you have any questions or queries for me or that you would like raised with the club I can be contacted on email at associatedirector@arabtrust.co.uk
